Winter is Coming: Your Home Prep Checklist
The temps are dropping, the days are getting shorter, and yes—pumpkin spice everything has taken over. That can only mean one thing… winter is right around the corner! Before the snow flies, give your home a little TLC to make sure it’s cozy, efficient, and ready for whatever New England throws at us. Here’s your lighthearted but oh-so-practical checklist:
The Winter Homeowner Checklist
-
Furnace Check-Up: Your heating system is the MVP of winter. Schedule a tune-up now so it doesn’t quit on the coldest day of January.
-
Chimney & Fireplace: Planning on cozy fires? Get your chimney cleaned and inspected—because “smoky chic” isn’t a good décor choice.
-
Gutter Patrol: Clear out those leaves before they freeze into mini ice dams. Your roof will thank you.
-
Seal the Drafts: Check doors and windows for sneaky leaks. Weatherstripping = your wallet’s best friend.
-
Roof Scan: Look for loose shingles or trouble spots now, before snow and ice pile on the pressure.
-
Outdoor Hoses: Disconnect and drain them. Frozen pipes are not a DIY project anyone wants.
-
Snow Gear Check: Dust off the shovel, stock up on salt or sand, and make sure the snowblower is ready to roll.
-
Safety First: Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Extra credit if you swap out batteries now.
-
Stock the Cozy Kit: Blankets, candles, board games, hot cocoa mix—because sometimes a snow day is a gift.
Pro tip: Tackle these in chunks over a couple of weekends. By the time the first snowflake lands, you’ll be sipping cocoa by the fire without a care.
